What Is a Foundation Year?

A foundation year is a year-long course that acts as entry to year one of a specific bachelor’s degree. They are one-year ‘bridging’ courses that prepare students for degree-level study by filling in any knowledge gaps. Our foundation year programmes are designed for students who have the ability to study a bachelor’s degree but don’t have the necessary qualifications to enrol directly.

Foundation year programmes are ideal for those who are returning to formal study after a break. One bonus of the foundation year is that you can go to university without having to re-sit your A-levels if you didn’t get the necessary grades.

UKCBC offers this programme as part of a franchise partnership with Bath Spa University (BSU). Students are expected to fulfil all the admission requirements prescribed by BSU, and admissions are subject to final approval by BSU. Students are expected to adhere to the relevant rules and regulations of BSU, in addition to the regulations of UKCBC.

After completing the year, you can move onto the first year of a full degree. Our full degree programmes all include the option of entry via a foundation year. See each course page for more details.
