Gabriela Preutesei is a student of the Pearson BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Management). In this article, Gabriela talks about her experience as a member of UKCBC’s Library Society.
Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by books. Now, as an adult, I really enjoy reading books, and my experience as a student member of the UKCBC Library Society was amazing! I had the chance to meet extraordinary people who helped me to boost my confidence and to develop my skills such as public speaking, which I was always struggling with. With the help of our Librarian, Ioanna, I conducted presentations in front of students from Park Royal Campus and promoted the society’s activities and the resources available online on the Ulearn platform, such as the EBSCO host collections of academic books and articles. It was like taking on a part-time job that I was extremely passionate about and, most importantly, I was in control of my time, my contribution, and my impact on others. Due to this opportunity, I have realised that it is important to get as much work experience as possible while at college. I was also very proud of myself for being proactive and doing something outside of my studies. With the use of the Library resources, students have free and unlimited access to different publications, such as books and articles, which will give them knowledge and help them with their assignments and Harvard citation requested by the UKCBC College. This will enhance their chances to achieve a good quality piece of work, receive good grades, and develop writing skills which are requested by most employers.
I want to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to all the students involved in this activity and to all the special people who I have met along the way.
